Yin

Yin yoga is a beautiful, meditative and mind-clearing practice.

Yin yoga is a beautiful, meditative and mind-clearing practice. Yin practice complements an active lifestyle, the breath-centred approach leaves you focused on the moment with a feeling of deep connection to your body. Working with gravity, we move gently through poses, holding each for several minutes, which allows the pose to work within the deeper tissues the fascia, ligaments, joints and bones. This class focuses on the lower body, especially the hips, pelvis, inner thighs and lower spine.

Yin-Yang

Yin opens the body, and yang is the dynamic complement which engages the cardiovascular system and strengthens muscles.

We begin the class with yin, which allows us to gain a deep connection to the breath, and open the body, supporting hydration of connective tissues and regaining your natural range of joint flexibility, then we introduce its dynamic complement, yang. In the hatha-inspired yang component of the class, we hold poses for a shorter amount of time, fluidly linking them with the breath, which engages the cardiovascular system, oxygenates blood and strengthens and lengthens muscles. Together, yin and yang support optimal health, and help you feel refreshed.

Private Classes

Join us for an individual class to gain a deeper connection to your breath and body, and deepen your practice.

Private classes are tailored to each person, around the approach and postures that create the most balance and happiness. Gain a deeper connection to your breath and body, through a practice designed to support your own unique needs. If you want to develop your practice, we can work on a specific physical area or a specific energetic feeling. Or if you’re new to yoga, we can start to build a solid foundation for your practice. Individual classes are available in yin and yin-yang.

Science of yoga

Happiness

Yoga increases your sense of calm, well being, happiness, enthusiasm and self esteem.

Yoga increases your sense of calm, well being, happiness, enthusiasm and self esteem. Not coincidentally, it decreases stress along with physical and psychological pain. Also, MRI results show that yoga elevates your levels of GABA, an amino acid found in the central nervous system which helps you feel calm, and alleviates symptoms of depression and anxiety.

Productivity

Yoga refreshes your ability to be productive and find your balance between stress and rest

Yoga refreshes your ability to be productive. Optimal health and productivity is the balance between stress and rest -- both physical and mental. The practice of linking the breath with movement stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which promotes the ability to recover, digest, play, and create.

Sleep

Yoga improves sleep, and addresses insomnia’s physical and psychological elements.

Yoga improves sleep, and addresses insomnia’s physical and psychological elements. When researchers at Harvard Medical School in Boston taught 20 study participants yoga breathing, meditation and mantra (sacred sound recitation) in one training session, they slept better.

About Leah

leah210

Leah, a Yin Yang Yoga Instructor, describes yoga as a "natural and essential component" of her humanity, a practice that is “beautiful and effective because it taps us into our parasympathetic nervous systems and allows us to rest, reset, heal and digest to feel calm and nourished.” One of Leah's favorite childhood memories "is of her mom popping up into a headstand in her living room." She is now living out the awe and inspiration that yoga asanas evoked in her from early childhood. ”.

Leah has spent fifteen years working in fashion, advertising and yoga retail as a stylist, buyer, sales representative & model for companies including Volkswagon, Evian, Crest, Chanel, Semperviva Yoga, Pyrrha, hauteyoga and A Peace Treaty. As a stylist Leah spent years lugging around heavy items. After one too many an instance of carrying dozens of boxes of shoes all at once, she began yearning to be kinder and gentler with herself. As Leah started to explore the relationship between yoga and her other creative passions, yoga resonated with her and became a practice she began to cherish deeply and implement into her lifestyle with devotion.

In her classes Leah creates an environment where people can direct their energy and attention within, to connect with their bodies’ innate intelligence. Tapping into meditation and music, students are encouraged to find connection to their inner wisdom, healing, creativity and joy. Leah's belief is that every choice, every day, in every way, can add restored vitality and mind-body balance into our lives. Her varied lifestyle experiences have helped her to infuse a holistic wellness perspective into all of her classes. Offering classes in which she engages elements and asanas that do everything from reinvigorating energy and creativity to yin yoga postures that work to create health within the fascia, ligaments, joints and bones.
